NASA Data Helps Companies Plan Work on the Moon

The Moon has water and metals such as iron and titanium. Companies need special machines to take these materials from the ground. Landing places and collection plans depend on where the materials sit. Lunar Station is a company that puts NASA records into computer models to help with this planning.

The company uses 60 years of Moon pictures and other records. Free NASA software turns pictures from space into 3D maps of rocks and hills. In 2009, a NASA satellite hit the south pole of the Moon and showed ice. Experts still do not know much about usable water in each place. The company uses that ice finding and more data to help private teams plan trips.

The same tools can choose landing places and rover paths. They can also advise companies about radio links. Some Moon areas cannot send signals straight to Earth, so a radio relay is needed. The company can also test how space particles may harm a rover or spacecraft. This work follows NASA's goal of using space methods on Earth.
